Report: Door still open for Man City to sign 20 y/o for £13.5m as club failed to make bid

Manchester City’s search for Sergio Aguero’s successor has seen them cast an eye over Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, but Calciomercato say Yuri Alberto is also on their radar.

The 20-year-old is coming off the back of a prolific season at Internacional and has interest from a host of European clubs as a result. Alberto was believed to be nearing a move to AC Milan, but the report says they failed to pay €10m (£8.44m) as required.

Alberto joined Internacional on a free transfer from Santos in August 2020 and has gone on to make 78 appearances in all competitions, scoring 28 goals with five assists. The Brazilian youth international is coming off the back of 18 goals and four assists from 49 games last season, so he’d improve City’s attack.

Pep Guardiola has Gabriel Jesus, Ferran Torres and Raheem Sterling who can lead the line, but he wants a natural and prolific centre-forward to replace the goals Aguero would have scored in his system. Alberto has been in fine form with his new club, so there’s no reason why he can’t step up if signed – Calciomercato say he will cost €16m – €18m (£13.5m – £15.2m).
