Report: Harry Kane unlikely to join Man City after club position themselves to sign £77m man

|

Manchester City tried and failed to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur over the summer and aren’t likely to return for the 28-year-old due to his lofty asking price and advancing age. So with AS (h/t Sport Witness) saying City have positioned themselves to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund next year, it appears they’ve closed the door on Kane.

Haaland’s release clause drops to €90m (£77m) at the end of the season, meaning he’ll be half the price Tottenham were requesting for Kane. The 21-year-old has scored 68 goals and made 19 assists in 67 games since joining from RB Salzburg in 2020. Haaland also has 12 goals in 15 for Norway too, so he could be a snip at £77m.

City aren’t the only club interested in the centre-forward, however. AS say Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona are among those monitoring his development, but the Premier League outfit have an advantage with their superior finances and ties with Haaland – father Alf Inge played for the Citizens between 2000 and 2003.

Agent Mino Raiola has a lot of interest to weigh up, so it remains to be seen which club ends up being successful.
