Report: Man City ‘admire’ £67m man with four goals in four games this season

|

Manchester City missed out on signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, but the Premier League champions aren’t giving up their pursuit of a centre-forward. Dean Smith of Eurosport says Director of Football Txiki Begiristain ‘is an admirer’ of Mikel Oyarzabal who is believed to be a genuine transfer target, so there could be some movement in the future.

Oyarzabal has risen through the youth ranks to Real Sociedad’s first-team, making 243 appearances in all competitions, scoring 68 goals with 45 assists. The 24-year-old boasts five goals in 19 games for the Spanish national team too and featured in the 2020 European Championships.

Oyarzabal has been prolific in La Liga since 2017. He had a hand in 19 goals from 35 games in 2017/18, 17 goals from 37 games in 2018/19, 21 goals from 37 games in 2019/20 and 19 goals from 33 games in 2020/21. The £67m-rated player has four goals in as many games this season too, so it’s easy to see why City are keen.

Eurosport note that Pep Guardiola is particular about which players he believes will fit his system, so he might not be behind signing Oyarzabal.
