Report: Man City consider move for £58.6m man with 61 goals if Haaland pursuit fails

|

Erling Haaland is top of Manchester City’s wishlist, but InterLive.it (h/t Sport Witness) say the Premier League leaders have alternatives if their pursuit of the 21-year-old fails. Lautaro Martinez is one of them, but Inter Milan are requesting up to €70m (£58.6m) for his signature.

The 24-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from Racing Club in 2018 and has gone on to make 162 appearances in all competitions, scoring 61 goals with 22 assists. Martinez has made 30 appearances across the board this season, scoring 12 goals, so would he best the best addition?

City are trying to replace Sergio Aguero who scored 260 goals with 73 assists in 390 games between 2011 and 2021. Martinez isn’t as prolific as his fellow Argentine, so the Sky Blues’ money might be better spent elsewhere. Haaland, for example, boasts 80 goals from 79 games at Borussia Dortmund (January 2020 – present).

Inter Live say Pep Guardiola could offer Gabriel Jesus to sweeten the deal as he’s no longer holding down a regular starting place, but Inter would prefer the money. Martinez has four years remaining on his deal at the San Siro too, so Inter are under no obligation to cash in early.

In other news, Man City will work with agent to broker deal for 21 y/o with 129 goals
