Report: Man City ‘expect to sell’ 24 y/o who hasn’t made an appearance for five years

Yangel Herrera could be on his way out of Manchester City this summer after failing to make an appearance since his arrival from Atletico Venezuela in 2017. Pep Guardiola has long deemed the 24-year-old surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium, resulting in him being loaned out to a host of clubs.

Herrera joined New York City (February 2017 – December 2018) just days after signing for Man City and made 38 appearances across the board, scoring one goal with four assists. He had a short-term loan at SD Huesca (January 2019 – June 2019) weeks later and made 16 appearances before switching Spanish clubs to join Granada (July 2019 – June 2021) that summer.

The Venezuelan international has spent the season at Espanyol (August 2021 – present), playing 18 times in all competitions, but it doesn’t appear he’ll have a future back in Manchester when his loan is up. Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News says the Premier League leaders ‘expect to sell’ Herrera when the summer transfer window opens as Rodri and Fernandinho have been preferred.

Herrera was briefly considered as Fernandinho’s long-term replacement due to his fine form at Espanyol, but it appears Guardiola has opted against it now.
