Report: Man City ‘expected to sign’ 21 y/o this summer, owners to ‘offer’ £500k p/w wages

Manchester City are desperate to sign Erling Haaland after identifying the 21-year-old as Sergio Aguero’s replacement, but he won’t come cheap. Borussia Dortmund agreed a release clause with Haaland that means they’ll have to sell him for €75m (£62.8m) this summer, but his salary demands will be eyewatering even for a club like City.

Constantin Eckner of The Times says City’s owners are ‘able to offer’ up to £500k-per-week for Haaland, so the Premier League leaders are ‘expected to sign’ the Norwegian international this summer. Haaland has interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, but City are frontrunners to procure his signature.

Haaland joined Dortmund on a four-and-a-half-year deal from RB Salzburg in 2020 and has gone on to make 81 appearances in all competitions, scoring 80 goals with 21 assists, so he’s already one of the most prolific strikers in Europe. The 21-year-old has scored 23 goals and made six assists in 22 games across the board, so it’s easy to see why City want him.

Pep Guardiola’s side are second in the Premier League for goals (68) but don’t have a player with more than 10 goals to their name this season, so Haaland could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
