Report: Man City in three-way race to sign 115-goal 21 y/o who is ‘ready to leave’ for a ‘record figure’

|

Manchester City failed to sign Harry Kane before the summer transfer window shut and appear to be moving on from the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

Calciomercato say Erling Haaland is now their No.1 target and is ‘ready to leave’ for a ‘record figure’, but the Premier League champions may have to battle Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid for his signature.

The 21-year-old has scored 115 career goals in 159 games, 66 of which have come in 66 games since his 2020-move to Borussia Dortmund. Haaland boasts 12 goals in 15 games for Norway too, so there are few better strikers in Europe.

It’s easy to see why City are interested. Pep Guardiola lost Sergio Aguero over the summer and hasn’t replaced him. Ferran Torres has operated in the makeshift role while Gabriel Jesus is in the squad also, but Haaland would be the ideal long-term investment.

He’s only 21 years of age but already boasts more than 100 career goals at three different clubs in three different countries, thus being a highly adaptable player.

City should be confident that Haaland could make an immediate impact in Manchester if signed, but they will have to wait until the summer of 2022 to make a move – Dortmund slapped a €75m release clause on Haaland that will be activated at the end of the season.
