Report: Man City man has uncertain future, Guardiola ‘fearful’ over expiring contract

|

Raheem Sterling has an uncertain future at Manchester City as his deal is up in 2023 and there’s been no progress made on contract talks. TeamTALK say Pep Guardiola is ‘fearful’ of losing the 27-year-old and is desperate to keep him at the Etihad, but there is a lot of interest in Sterling which could turn his head.

The England international has made 39 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 14 goals with seven assists. Sterling’s had a hand in six goals from his last six Premier League outings, so it’s easy to see why Guardiola wants to keep him.

But talks over a new deal stalled back in 2021 after Sterling parted ways with his agent and haven’t restarted. He was unhappy at the end of last season and even talked up the prospect of moving abroad, but the 27-year-old seems content to stay in Manchester now.

The England international joined City from Liverpool in 2015 and has gone on to make 332 appearances in all competitions, scoring 128 goals with 93 assists. City don’t like to let players contracts run down until their final year, so they’ll be desperate to get a deal done this summer.
