Report: Man City man has ‘uncertainty about future’, club eye 6 potential replacements

Gabriel Jesus hasn’t managed to nail down a regular starting place for Manchester City this season, often sitting on the bench while Pep Guardiola named a strikerless starting eleven, and The Athletic believe there is ‘uncertainty about his future’ as a result.

Sergio Aguero has spent most of the campaign sidelined with injury and Covid-19, but Jesus has only started 10 of City’s 23 Premier League games, scoring four goals and making one assist. The fact City have shown an interest in seven strikers is bad news for Jesus too, as a new face might push him down the pecking order.

The Athletic note that Sky Blues have Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku and Southampton’s Danny Ings on their radar, but it remains to be seen which player they’ll end up with.

Jesus has made 173 appearances in all competitions since joining City from Palmeiras in 2017, scoring 75 goals with 31 assists. He’s been a terrific servant for the club but doesn’t have his manager’s full trust which could put an expiration date on his time at the Etihad Stadium.
