Report: Man City may have to pay £63.7m and £5.1m-a-year wages to sign 35-goal striker

Manchester City never managed to replace Sergio Aguero over the summer, failing to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, but La Nazione (h/t Sport Witness) say they have their sights set on a more attainable alternative – Dusan Vlahovic.

The 21-year-old joined Fiorentina from Partizan in 2018 and has gone on to make 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring 35 goals with five assists. Vlahovic has started this season strongly with the Violas, scoring six goals and making one assist in eight games, so it’s easy to see why City are keen.

La Nazione say the Serbian international has an asking price of €75m (£63.7m) while City are reportedly prepared to double his €3m (£2.55m) wages, so he could stand to earn £100k-per-week if he came to the Etihad Stadium. That being said, City will have competition for his signature.

Atletico Madrid have been credited with an interest, so the Premier League defending champions could enter into a bidding war if the Spaniards have the resources to match Vlahovic’s asking price. Fiorentina won’t let such an important player leave mid-season, so next summer might be the time when movement happens.

That will also be the time when Erling Haaland’s release clause drops, so City will have other irons in the fire.
