Report: Man City ‘offered proposal’ of £75.7m for 24 y/o with more tackles than Rodri

Manchester City aren’t short of options in midfield with Rodri, Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne at their disposal, but Fichajes say they’re after another addition to the engine room – Frenkie De Jong.

The 24-year-old is a regular at Barcelona but has struggled for consistency this season and might be considering his future as a result. Fichajes say City have ‘offered a proposal’ to the Catalans of €90m (£75.7m), but it remains to be seen if he’s actually moved on.

De Jong joined Barca from Ajax in 2019 and has gone on to make 106 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals with 14 assists. The Netherlands international has featured in 13/16 games across the board this campaign but hasn’t always been at his best.

De Jong has made more tackles (18) than Rodri (17) and Bernardo Silva (17), so he would improve the midfield. The 24-year-old is adept at turning over possessions, but he won’t come cheap. There’s no guarantee Barca will accept City’s alleged bid, as the Dutchman is only two years into a seven-year contract, but it does appear the Sky Blues are keen.
