Report: Man City scouting £38.4m-rated striker with 20 goals and 12 assists

There was a lot of talk over the summer about Manchester City’s interest in Romelu Lukaku, Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, but Darwin Nunez was another player on their radar.

The 22-year-old was coming off the back of an impressive debut season at Benfica and had Pep Guardiola’s attention. Nunez is still a transfer target for City and O Jogo (h/t Sport Witness) say they’re currently scouting him.

Nunez has made 53 appearances in all competitions since making the switch from UD Almeria in September 2020, scoring 20 goals with 12 assists. He’s got his second season off to a strong start with six goals in nine games, so it’s easy to see why he’s attracting interest.

Benfica are in financial difficulty and mighty be forced to offload valuable assets to make back some money, so Nunez could be a casualty of that. The Uruguayan international, who scored two goals in six games, has an asking price of £38.4m so he won’t break the bank.

It just remains to be seen if City will lodge a bid when the winter transfer window opens as Haaland still remains their top priority.

In other news, Man City could sign £162k-per-week man with 30 goals and 21 assists for free in 2022
