Report: Man City to battle Man Utd over £64.5m player next summer

|

Manchester City missed out on signing Harry Kane before the summer transfer window shut and The Sun say they may be giving up their pursuit of the Tottenham Hotspur striker entirely. Instead, Erling Haaland will be their top target next summer and Manchester United could battle them for his signature.

The 21-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund in January 2020 and went on to make 64 appearances in all competitions, scoring 63 goals with 18 assists. Haaland has begun the new season in prolific form too, scoring six goals with three assists in five games, so he’s not slowing down.

If City can really sign the Norwegian international for £64.5m, they’ll be getting one of the best strikers in Europe who has more than 10 years of his career still ahead of him. Haaland has three more years on his deal at Dortmund but has a release clause that can be triggered in the summer of 2022.

United are a threat, however. The Red Devils have signed Raphael Varane frm Real Madrid, Jadon Sancho from Dortmund and Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, so they will be in a position to lure Haaland to Old Trafford. Time will tell which Manchester giant is successful.
