Report: Man City ‘to hold talks’ with £64m man with 117 goals in Jan over ‘summer move’

Manchester City’s failure to replace Sergio Aguero with Harry Kane over the summer saw them turn their attentions to Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund. The 21-year-old’s release clause drops to €75m (£64m) in 2022 and The Times say City are ‘to hold talks’ with Haaland over a potential ‘summer move’.

Haaland scored 20 goals in 50 games for Molde FK (February 2017 – January 2019) before joining Red Bull Salzburg (January 2019 – January 2020). He bagged an impressive 29 goals in 27 games before joining Dortmund (January 2020 – present) and going on to score 68 goals in 67 games – 117 goals total from 144 matches.

It’s easy to see why the prolific Norwegian international, who boasts 12 goals in 15 games for his country, is on the radar of Man City, but most clubs in Europe are going to be interested. Haaland is the worst-kept secret in the continent and will have a very affordable release clause next year, so suitors may need to charm his agent Mino Raiola.

City are positioning themselves to sign Haaland and appear to be finished with Kane. Haaland is only 21 and will cost less than half of what Tottenham were requesting for Kane, so he could be better business.
