Report: Man City ‘want’ £42.4m for 25 y/o as PL rivals ‘prepare’ opening bid

Gabriel Jesus has one year remaining on his contract at Manchester City and had an uncertain future when he wasn’t starting regularly, but the 25-year-old featuring heavily of late was expected to see him put pen to paper on a new deal.

That hasn’t happened, however, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes City ‘want’ to sell Jesus for €50m-€60m (£42.4m-£50.9m). And although it remains to be seen how much money Arsenal are willing to spend on a striker this summer, the Gunners may be in the frame to sign Jesus.

Arsenal are reportedly ‘preparing’ an opening bid to put to City and are believed to have held talks with the player’s agent Marcelo Pettinati over a potential deal. Mikel Arteta no longer has Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and could see Alexandre Lacazette following him through the exit door, so he needs a striker lined up.

Jesus has made 234 appearances in all competitions for Man City since his 2018-move from Palmeiras, scoring 95 goals with 46 assists. He’s netted 13 goals with 12 assists in 39 games this season, so it’s easy to see why Arsenal are intererested in the Brazilian international.

Whether Guardiola lets him go is another story, however, as Jesus is more than a useful player in the squad and won’t be easy to replace.
