Report: Man City willing to sacrifice 68-goal star to fund groundbreaking transfer

|

I’ve seen some crazy transfer windows in my time. I thought I had seen it all when Robinho walked through the glass doors of the Etihad all those years ago. But I have been truly blown away by the current goings-on.

What’s happened?

In case you missed it, and I’m not sure how if you did, but reports coming from the Associated Press suggested that world superstar and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi wants to leave his beloved Barcelona. I’m still in shock that I am saying this.

This had led to suggestions that us, little City, could get our hands on the Argentina captain this summer if he decides to walk the walk to Greater Manchester.

With this in mind, Messi has a €700m (£630m) release clause that will have to be paid to secure his services. Not to sound big-headed, I know City have a lot of money but I don’t think we possess that much.

The six-time Ballon d’Or is, arguably, the best player in the world right now which, probably, justifies his colossal price tag.

Should we sell Gabriel Jesus if it means signing Lionel Messi?

Yes

No

Of course, this would mean that we would have to tempt Barcelona into selling by offering cash and players to them.

Therefore, according to Globo, via Toni Juanmarti, manager Pep Guardiola would be happy to sacrifice City striker Gabriel Jesus in order to help fund seal Messi’s move to the Citizens.

With Barcelona also set to lose Luis Suarez this summer, their newly-appointed boss Ronald Koeman will be keen to find a replacement.

Anything for Messi

Wouldn’t any club in world football have Messi? It seems bizarre why any club, for supporter for that matter, would argue against it. Even though he is 33, he is still that magic touch that can change any game in a single moment.

Granted, Jesus has been superb for us, scoring 68 goals from 153 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, as per TransferMarkt. If I had to choose one of the attackers at the club to send in the opposite direction, it certainly wouldn’t be Sergio Aguero.

That man is one of the greatest to ever wear the blue shirt, and it can’t be Raheem Sterling either due to the impact he has had under the Spanish tactician’s guidance.

If this deal goes through, it will be the greatest in the club’s history and will shake up the global spectrum of football completely.

Could it top my feelings the day Robinho came in? Probably.
