Report: Newcastle ‘watching over’ Man City player ‘not resuming’ contract talks

|

Newcastle United are now the richest club in the world after being taken over by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media and Fichajes say they have Raheem Sterling on their list of potential transfer targets.

The 26-year-old has an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium as the Mirror note that he’s ‘not resuming’ contract talks while his playing time remains diminished. He’s having talks with Pep Guardiola over his role and will only sign a new deal when given assurances about future opportunities.

Newcastle would like to capitalise on the sitation and are now ‘watching over’ Sterling. The Magpies have Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona), Luka Jovic (Real Madrid), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Keylor Navas (PSG), Mauro Icardi (PSG), Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal), Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal), Timo Werner (Chelsea) and Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) on their shortlist too.

Sterling has made 302 appearances in all competitions since joining from Liverpool in 2015, scoring 115 goals with 88 assists. He’s bagged double figures for Premier League goals in the last four seasons, scoring 66 goals from 138 since the start of 2017/18, so he’d be an incredible coup.

That being said, there’s no indication Sterling would make the switch, so Fichajes’ report should be taken with a pinch of salt.
