Report: Player ‘wants’ to join Man City as he’s ‘not renewing contract’ at PL rivals

|

Manchester City failed in their bid to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur over the summer and didn’t bother returning for the 28-year-old in January, so it was expected that they’d move on from Kane this summer. Sky Germany say that might not be the case, however, as Kane still ‘wants’ to join the Sky Blues because he’s ‘not renewing his contract’ at Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Kane but City weren’t willing to pay £150m to sign him months ago – they had four separate bids rejected before giving up. City may try to lower Tottenham’s asking price for the England international, but it remains to be seen if it’s successful. Kane has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, so the North Londoners aren’t obligated to cash in early just yet.

Kane has scored 241 goals with 53 assists from 374 games at Tottenham and boasts 48 goals in 67 games for the England national team, so he’d be the ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero. City may not want to pay a British transfer record fee for a soon-to-be 29-year-old, however, as it’s a short-term signing rather than long investment.

This is why 21-year-old Erling Haaland is high on City’s wishlist, as he’s shown himself to be just as prolific and has many years ahead of himself.
