Report says Man City player could earn £850k-per-week in wages

|

Erling Haaland seemed a bargain acquisition for Manchester City after his £54m move from Borussia Dortmund, but Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail has revealed that his wages could rise to £850k-per-week/£45m-a-year with bonuses.

The 22-year-old was believed to be taking home £375k-per-week/£19.5m-a-year in wages, but Keegan’s report suggests he could double his salary due to lofty and attainable bonuses. Haaland has scored 19 goals from 12 games for City, so he’s at least vindicating the financial outlay.

The Norwegian international’s deal runs until 2027, so City could end up paying £225m in wages by the time his contract expires. Coupled with his transfer fee and the Sky Blues are committing nearly £300m for one player over five years. Haaland is one of Europe’s best strikers, but that’s a lot of money being spent.

Haaland is reported to have a release clause to allow him a move to Real Madrid in 2024, so he’s been grabbing the headlines of late. Kevin De Bruyne takes home more of a basic salary than Haaland (£400k-per-week), but his bonuses pale in comparison.
