Report: West Ham and Newcastle eye £54m Man City man, deal unlikely for two reasons

|

Gabriel Jesus is enjoying a prolific season at Manchester City and has featured regularly under Pep Guardiola, so it’s hard to see him wanting to leave. Despite this, Fichajes say the 24-year-old could be on his way out and name West Ham United and Newcastle United as potential destinations.

The report says Jesus isn’t the player Guardiola wants at the Etihad and could sell him ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, but the validaity of such a claim is questionable. Jesus has made 17 appearances in all competitions (1039/1530 minutes), scoring five goals with eight assists, so he’s been an important player.

Newcastle want another centre-forward as Joelinton has scored just one goal in 15 games while Dwight Gayle is goalless this season, but they may have set their sights too high with Jesus. West Ham only have Michail Antonio who’s a natural striker in the first-team, so they’d benefit from bolstering their attack.

Jesus has two years remaining on his deal and may not consider Newcastle or West Ham a good career move, so it’s hard to see him leaving next summer. Fichajes’ story also links Juventus and LOSC Lille with the £54m-rated man but should probably be taken with a pinch of salt.
