Revolving Door Speeding Up At City

The pre-season is really reaching boiling point at Eastlands. The written press continues to overflow with its predictions although it looks very much as if Mancini knows clearly who his target footballers are and is systematically setting about getting them.

Some of those currently being mentioned would certainly be some form of icing on the cake and some of those who joined only last season can be forgiven for being a little nervous about retaining their places. It has rapidly become clear that last season’s spending was not a one-off and that this exceptional football club is not a ‘rich-man’s play toy’. It has become a labour of love and determination to steer Manchester City to the top of the hill..and to keep it there!

In the same way as some nervousness seems to have beset Stretford with outbursts by Chopper Scholes, some of our own players, who may be feeling threatened are starting to express themselves in written form. Well guys it is more than time to express yourselves on the football field because if you don’t the revolving door will swallow you. If you haven’t or don’t pull your weight, there will be no room for you at Eastlands. Indeed some will already be consigned to the Carling Cup and early Europa Cup matches, whilst those who really dig in for the Blues will still see themselves take part in around 35 matches this season. Every player will need to be on his toes because we are aware that our owners have publicly stated that they want at least 2 international-class players for each position. And that is not far from being achieved.

So those who do not learn, those who cannot find some sort of consistent form, those who blow hot and cold, those who make trouble will discover themselves playing in the second tier of the Premier League or on loan to sundry European backwaters. We know who they are.

Those who propel themselves forward and project this Club forward will find themselves idolised as they establish themselves in the lore of our Club. We know who they are and what is expected of them.

So whilst it is refereshing to see Adebayor welcoming this and that, what we really want is not 6 goals before the end of September and then a rest until New Year, but a consistent goal-a-week all season. You can’t be left out then. It is also refreshing to see Bellamy keeping quite close counsel amidst the speculation surrounding him. This lad doesn’t blow hot and cold and for me must be kept. Shay Given tries to talk up his inury situation and indeed the Club is starting to be more convinced he is there or thereabouts in terms of fitness, so Joe, you’ve had a couple of pre-season appearances..it’s time to keep clean sheets. Oh and Robinho, if this influx of world footballers is not to your liking and you really do not want to play for Manchester City, then go back to Brazil, enjoy the sunshine and enjoy half the money you get now..or you could join some of your colleagues in the footballing highspots like…..Turkey or Donetsk, the latter of which is so cold that you will be begging to be replaced at half time.

The new season approaches with all its renewed hope. We were not far off last season. Something will happen this season and when it does and that forsaken sign is removed from DeliaLand, we can smile in the comfort that no matter what, the debt does not go away on its own.

I would however prefer to be smiling for a positive reason…something in the cabinet.
