Man City’s Micah Richards has an eye on picking up an England recall in time for the world cup finals – and why not, with a good season it is still possible.

From Vital England:

Richards’ fall from grace with the full England team has been quite something. As a youngster – not that he is an old-timer now – he burst onto the international scene, back in 2006, and appeared destined for greatness with club and country with the right back spot, but more likely a central role in the future, seemingly his for the long-term…

Injuries and a loss of form saw him demoted to the U21 side, and this is where he had stayed for the past year or more. Now, as he told the official Man City site, he is looking to reclaim his spot in time for the world cup finals next summer, so long as he can keep his place in the City side first: ‘first thing first and the initial aim for everyone here this season was to win a place in the side; there is great competition for places.

‘Hopefully if we are pushing to where we want to be, I am in the side and we are keeping clean sheets and doing well then there is no reason why I can’t get back into the England picture.’

Richard knows that if he gives 100% for City week-in-week-out, which he says is his priority, then the rest should take care of itself.
