RIP Setanta Sports

Irish pay TV channel, Setanta Sports has suspended taking on new subscribers fuelling it’s anticipated final demise.

The company held a board meeting earlier today, the second within seven days in an attempt to find a solution to its current financial situation, however it appears all attempts to rescue the company have failed.

It appears Setanta couldn’t find the number of subscribers required, with the so-called churn-rate (number of paying customers cancelling their contracts) increasing daily.

Will you miss Setanta Sports?

Subscribers can expect blank screens any time now, but at the end of the day, will you miss Setanta Sports?

Setanta News – The channel tried to take on Sky Sports News and failed. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but the service didn’t come close to its rival. The only good thing was, it was broadcast in 16:9 widescreen.

Setanta Sports 1 & 2 – Live Premier League and England international pictures looked grainy at the best of times. Another annoying thing was the constant loss of live pictures. When one phoned in to complain the unhelpful customer helpdesk blamed everyone but themselves.

Setanta Golf – Fine, if you like golf.

Arsenal, Rangers & Celtic TV – They will have to find a new platform to broadcast on.

ESPN America – See above.

Horse Racing – Perhaps C4 will reclaim many of the races lost to the dedicated racing channels.

Like a fool, I for one still subscribe. Do you?
