Well, that’s that then. As widely predicted across Planet Blue it looks more than likely that De Souza Robinho ain’t coming back to Manchester…

The record signing received a rapturous welcome on Santos’ Vila Belmiro turf in Brazil as he arrived to start his loan spell from City in a helicopter accompanied by Pele, no less. Cue dancing and showboating in front of an estimated 15,000 excited fans and the subsequent quotes:

‘My goal is to stay a long time. If the president wants to extend my contract to four years, that would be great. I love Santos and love to play for Santos.’

He then underlined his commitment to joining Brazil in South Africa at the World Cup this summer before adding:

‘I’m not going through a good period but that’s normal. I spent time injured and that affected me, but with a lot of work we’re going to turn things round.’

So there you have it, a statement of intent record signing that stunned European football but didn’t work out. Just like Steve Daley all over again.

I’ll get me coat. We move on.
