League One side Rochdale have appointed former Manchester City youth team coach Steve Eyre as their manager.
Eyre replaces Keith Hill, who left the Dale to take over Championship club Barnsley.
Hill took charge at Spotland in 2007 and led Rochdale to promotion from League Two in 2010.
Eyre told BBC Radio Manchester…
‘The negotiations were never a big part of the decision to leave Manchester City; it was more of a career opportunity.’
During his time at Eastlands, Eyre helped guide City’s youngsters to five league titles and two FA Youth Cup finals.
He was later quoted as saying…
‘After some serious soul searching and discussions with some fantastic people and my family, we decided it was an opportunity I couldn’t resist or turn down.’
‘I’m obviously well aware of the foundation that Keith and Dave [Flitcroft, his assistant] have left the club.’
‘The condition it had been left in by the two previous coaches and managers it was a no-brainer in the end.’
‘I know the club are financially stable, nothing will be abused or disrespected but at the same we will always be looking to strengthen where we need to.’
