The Raheem Sterling saga is almost at an end with Liverpool’s England winger ‘on the cusp’, I’ve wanted to use that line for a while – not regarding Sterling necessarily, of signing for City with this move Brendan Rogers has confirmed he expects ‘to go through’ with a fee agreed.

Widespread reports on Sunday, including those covered by the BBC, said a £49m deal had been agreed with Liverpool and Sterling would now undergo a medical, probably, today.

His signing will then be official unveiled, at which time it’ll a 100% ‘done deal.’

Rodgers though, whilst ‘playing down’ talks of any fallout with Sterling, has been quoted by Sky Sports as confirming a deal has been agreed.

He didn’t confirm this was with us but I think we know it is and this is a deal he’ll expect to be done and dusted after this medical and personal terms are agreed.

‘The situation is very simple. The club has agreed a deal with another club for Raheem subject to a medical that’ll go through.

‘Contrary to the last week or so, in terms of what was written, Raheem and I have always remained very strong in our relationship, and have been up until he left. There’s no issue there.’

Already the decision to pay the best part of £50m, some of which Liverpool have to hand over to QPR as part of a sell-on fee I believe, to make the 20-year-old the second most expensive British player ever has ‘come under scrutiny’, although I don’t see too many kicking up a fuss about this and that club paying x-amount for this or that player….do you? Why do this when it comes to City all the time!

I’ll admit I don’t think, at this stage, Sterling is worth £50m and I’ve always said that £35m would be my top outlay but what’s £15m between friends!

In all seriousness I do think its too much, future potential wise it could prove ‘a snip’ but we’ve paid over the odds and their isn’t much doubting this, then again England players always do command ludicrous fees.

As far as his wages go, Sky Sports also claim it’s £200,000-a-week we’ll pay him! Again an obscene amount, I’d like to think it isn’t that much, but this is modern football for you isn’t it!

Sterling will be under pressure to perform but I’ve little doubt he will….

Once we’ve officially announced the deal of course, which as likely as this now seems to be happening at risk of repeating myself as I keep saying recently ‘until he holds aloft that shirt’ we can’t take anything for granted.
