RVP: A Striking Headache City Avoided

Depending upon which paper you dare to read, City either made a bid for The Rags Robin Van Persie or they didn’t. The problem over where he would fit in remains, albeit elsewhere…

Wayne Rooney and RVP scored 57 goals in the Premier League alone between them last season. Their pairing must seem like a dream come true for Fergie and his crusade to win back his crown and make it 20 league titles. But a match made in heaven? A dynamic duo? Fatman and Robin? Don’t count on it.

Rugney’s being hopelessly out of form and clearly unfit had already seen him dropped before his nasty injury at the weekend…or was he benched because Taggart couldn’t see where the desperately needed flagship signing would fit in?

Sure, RVP stepped up to the plate against Fulham when required but without the assistance of Rugney…I sense the identity of Fergie’s little golden boy is soon to change.

If Rugney can arrest his latest threatened decline, I just see Rugney and RVP vying for attention as they both love the plaudits. RVP will not be the focal point he once was at Arsenal and this is what he may find hard to swallow. Taking it to the other extreme, RVP may become more of a focal point than Rugney and that is something Rugney will not swallow easily. If RVP doesn’t quite pan out the way that Fergie wants him to, well he may just find himself becoming a bit-part player coming off the bench, when all else seems to be failing.

It was always going to be difficult to see where RVP could have swept in amongst City’s fine young strikers but I suggest that Rugney’s injury has eased Taggart’s worries for now.
