Georgios Samaras has been left out of the Greece squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Moldova on the 2nd September.

Big Sam hasn’t looked in top form so far for City, although to be fair, he hasn’t really had many chances in the first team, and didn’t have one of his better games in the recent friendly against England.

Nevertheless it will be a big disappointment to the giant striker who made such an instant impact when he joined City last season.

He did come on as a late substitute in our magnificent 1-0 win over the Gooners on Saturday, but with only a few minutes on the pitch he never had time to get into the game.

His omission could be a blessing in disguise as it will allow Psycho and the rest of the backroom staff to work with him in training and build up his confidence.

I think part of the problem is the formation City play when he’s in the team. Both Samaras and Corradi are big, strong lads and need balls crossed in to them. The lack of service has forced Samaras out to the left wing and that’s simply not his position.

The imminent arrival of Thomert ( if you believe all the rumours ) will hopefully provide a steady stream of crosses which Samaras should score a hat-full of goals from.

Don’t write Samaras off quite yet – he’ll come good !
