Ray Ranson has dominated the City headlines for the past couple of days, but my hopes of his proposed takeover were quickly quashed by Manchester City Announcing they have problems with his ‘indicative proposals’.
‘Ray Ranson`s indicative proposals to date have contained a number of material conditions that the board do not believe can be fulfilled and this has been communicated to Ray Ranson`s advisers,’ read the statement.
To me Manchester City seem to keen to follow in the footsteps of their neighbours and other premiership teams in a bid for a foreign investor. However I am positive that Ranson`s Bid would be the best for the club. I am not the only one to think this would be a good move for the club. The Manchester City Supporters Trust has aired their views on Ranson`s plans for City, describing them as “interesting”.
Ranson`s bid would produce around 90 million pounds according to reports, which would write off debts from current chairman John Wardle, and still leave the City Manager with around 20 million pounds to spend on strengthening the squad in the summer. Ranson has declared his ambition in taking the club to the next level, both off and on the pitch.
“City has huge potential on and off the pitch. I believe I am in a unique position to drive that forward having played the game at the top level and then never left it”
Ranson is believed to be competing with former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, plus an American consortium, in the battle to take over at City.
However Shinawatra is still only rumoured to be considering a bid, while the Americans` offer is likely to involve the purchase of a 29% stake, rather than the total buy-out to which Ranson is committed.
In my opinion Manchester City should stay in British hands. As Ranson is a former Manchester City player, I fail to see why Ranson is only an outsider in the battle for the club. He has the money needed to take the Club further, and with his mysterious financial backer who is also based in Britain helping him along the way. I believe the only way is to Accept Ranson`s Bid. John Wardle has been a very steady rock in City`s rocky past years; however the time has come to pass the baton on to another British hand. Say yes to Ray Ranson.
