Striker to leave Man City after 10 years

|

Manchester City have confirmed that Sergio Aguero will leave the club at the end of the season. The 32-year-old’s contract expires this summer and he’s long promised to see out his deal without committing further, so this has been coming.

Aguero has spent most of the campaign on the sidelines due to injury and has been left on the bench when fit, so it’s not a major surprise this will be his last season in Manchester. It’s just sad to see a player’s legacy coming to an end after being such a terrific servant.

The Argentine international joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has gone on to make 384 appearances across the board, scoring 257 goals with 73 assists (Transfermarkt). He’s 19 short of bagging 200 Premier League goals at City and doesn’t look likely to hit the tally in his final campaign.

Aguero has scored only three goals in 14 games in all competitions this season, just one of which has come in the league (Transfermarkt). He’s amassed only 310 minutes of top-flight playing time and has been an unused substitute five times in City’s last eight league outings, so Pep Guardiola appears ready to move on.

The 32-year-old has won four league titles, five league cups and one FA Cup and is on course to win the quadruple this campaign, so he could end his time at the Etihad in brilliant fashion. Time will tell.
