‘Shame to see’ – Agbonlahor critical of Pep Guardiola’s treatment of Man City player

Kalvin Phillips made his third Manchester City appearance in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, coming off the bench in injury time to see the game out.

The 26-year-old replaced Erling Haaland in the 90+2 minute of the game, but talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor isn’t happy with him being continually overlooked by Pep Guardiola.

Agbonlahor tweeted: “Shame to see Kalvin Phillips getting 1 minute of playing time.”

The England international has amassed just 13 minutes of football since making the £44.1m switch from Leeds United over the summer, playing second fiddle to Rodri in midfield.

Phillips made his City debut in their 2-0 win over West Ham United on August 7, coming off the bench in injury time. He missed the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on August 13 due to injury but made his return in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on August 21, though he was an unused substitute.

The 26-year-old would miss City’s 4-2 win over Crystal Palace on August 27, 6-0 win over Nottingham Forest on August 31 and 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on September 3 through injury.

He impressed when coming off the bench in the 4-0 win over Sevilla on September 6 and had a cameo in the 2-1 win over Dortmund on September 14, so Phillips is still awaiting his first start. City lock horns with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, but it remains to be seen if the former Leeds midfielder will get the nod.
