Should he stay or should he go?

Stuart Pearce: ‘With the scenario we have in the summer, it is absolutely vital that the Football Association put someone in place on a full-time basis.

‘For what it’s worth, I think it’s a full-time post and a post that should be very coveted.’

Reading between the lines, should we interpret this as a come and get me plea from SP to the FA where he certainly has his admirers?

Whether you are on the MCFC board, are a player or a City fan, you have to ask yourself where are the quotes from our manager that commit to his long term objectives with us at Manchester City? What signals is he sending out to us all?

I suggest that SP has already begun to cement his polite exit from our club. I would go further to recommend the board get a grip sooner rather than later of this whole debacle before we get left up the creek. Dictate the future. He’s either with us or he’s not. You can’t have this both ways. The Manchester City manager’s position should be respected as a responsibility that requires total focus. I do not see any of the Premiership managers whose teams have already secured their status for next season taking on second jobs.

Many of the Blues I spoke to last weekend were debating who City could turn to should it be finally admitted that SP’s ambitions lie with the FA.

I would look abroad for a respected, experienced tactician who can mould our team into an exciting outfit in England and in Europe. Everything should be in place at Manchester City for the club to take off but we are stagnating and the fans are increasingly saying enough is enough. We all need a lift.

So, I ask the board to redirect that hefty wage bill towards the manager’s position and go for the likes of Claudio Ranieri or better still Luiz Felipe Scolari, a man who relishes a challenge and would one day like to manage in England.

A proven leader like ‘Big Phil’ leading City out against the likes of Taggart…I think it can be done.
