Silva: Believe

Brilliant City playmaker David Silva is determined to see Manchester City crowned English Champions and issues a rallying cry ahead of the difficult mission to Newcastle…

Despite The Blues superiority over Newcastle in recent seasons whereby The Magpies have not registered a league win over City in ten attempts, NOTHING must be taken for granted.

Silva has made it clear this week that City, having put in some immense shifts since being written off in the title race 22 days ago must now sieze the opportunity their hard work has realised and get the job done:

‘We have the confidence we need for the last two games. The Newcastle game is like a final for us now, and we have to win it. It has been a very long season, very tough, but it-s very important that we finish the job now. Win the last two matches and we win the title.’

City have come a long way inside 28 months of Roberto Mancini’s leadership, unbeaten in 109 of his 139 games in charge and it’s his cool head, exemplified in the way he slapped down ranting Sir Alex Ferguson publicly on Monday night that Silva credits with The Citizens’ late season surge:

‘Roberto has deflected the pressure from us by saying the title is over…Him taking the pressure off the players has really helped. We were in front, then they were in front and now we are tying with Manchester United and are playing to win the title…In the dressing room you could see Mancini was delighted. He told us that we all played great. But he also reminded us that we must concentrate on next Sunday.’

Summing up the situation, Silva underlined the City squad’s togetherness that shone through from a fascinating official website derby tunnelcam that also portrayed a curiously agitated, disparate and troubled United team set against The Blues’ relaxed demeanour:

‘We are ready to win the title. We don’t concentrate on United. We concentrate on ourselves. We beat them at their place, and we beat them at ours. We know how we want to play, and we know where we want to be… we don’t need to think about United. We’ve passed that mental stage now and we believe we can win the title.’
