‘Something tells me’ – Chris Sutton says Man City won’t repeat transfer decision

|

Pep Guardiola surprised a lot of people by sanctioning the sale of Raheem Sterling to Chelsea and Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal over the summer, but Chris Sutton doesn’t believe he will make the same mistake again.

Sterling and Jesus both left Manchester City after qualms over playing time under Guardiola, but Sutton said in his Daily Mail column that Julian Alvarez wouldn’t be afforded similar treatment even if he was playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland.

He wrote: “Something tells me that Manchester City, having seen how selling Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko turned Arsenal into title contenders, will not loan them Argentina World Cup hero Julian Alvarez.”

Guardiola has previously said he will grant a move away for any player that requests it, though he wanted to make an exception for Nathan Ake and Bernardo Silva. The City manager would surely do the same for Alvarez as his future looks bright.

The 22-year-old has made 20 appearances in all competitions for City this season, scoring seven goals with two assists from 890 minutes of football. Alvarez has enjoyed a bright start to life in Manchester, but his stock has risen due to his World Cup performances with Argentina.

Alvarez scored four goals with one assist and played in every game on route to winning the tournament, putting in great performances under Lionel Scaloni, so Guardiola wouldn’t dream of getting rid of him.
