0 shots on target, 0 chances, 0 dribbles – Man City player underwhelmed v Tottenham [Opinion]

Manchester City suffered their fifth consecutive away defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon and Riyad Mahrez was one of many players who underwhelmed.

The 31-year-old started on the right flank but made very little impact before being substituted before the hour mark. Mahrez did hit the woodwork with an effort after City had gone 1-0 down, but he didn’t do a lot else.

Mahrez had been in fine form ahead of the Tottenham clash, scoring three goals with three assists in five Premier League games, but he let himself down in North London.

Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News gave the Algerian international a player rating of 6/10 and said he was ‘quiet’ on the day. Sean Walsh of 90min gave Mahrez a player rating of 5/10 and said he struggled to beat his marker.

Against Tottenham, the 31-year-old played for 58 minutes, failed to register a shot on target, had 34 touches, failed to whip in an accurate cross, completed 80% of his 25 passes, failed to create a chance, was fouled twice, failed to make a successful dribble and failed to turnover possession.

City next face Aston Villa on Sunday and Mahrez will no doubt hope to put things right.
