Report: Club closing in on loan move for Man City player with 27 goals in 24 youth games

Liam Delap is highly rated at Manchester City but isn’t expected to make waves in the first-team this season, so the Premier League champions will loan him out to a side that can offer him regular playing time.

Football League World say Stoke City are leading the race for his signature and are confident Delap will be a Potter for the 2021/22 campaign. Delap is the son of Rory who made over 200 appearances for Stoke, so the connection may pay dividends.

The 18-year-old joined Man City from Derby County in 2019 and has gone on to make 17 appearances for the U18s (11 goals, seven assists), two appearances for the U19s, 24 appearances for the U23s (27 goals, seven assists) and three appearances in the first-team (one goal).

Delap has been consistently prolific at youth level and should thrive at getting competitive football, so this could be a big season for him. Stoke have an ageing frontline with Steven Fletcher (aged 34) and Lee Gregory (32), so Delap would provide youthful exhuberance if signed.

Time will tell if Stoke get this deal over the line.
