Manchester City are now being linked with Everton’s young defender John Stones.

The 21 year old has already been heavily linked this summer with a move to Chelsea and they have reportedly already had an offer of £20million declined but have gone back in with a new offer.

It’s said that increased offer was also declined, and Everton have said publicly that the England man isn’t for sale – but would being to pay more attention if somebody was to offer in excess of £30million.

The Mirror say today that we have had a long standing interest in the player, but have been waiting for him to develop more and get a full season under his belt for his current club before making an approach but with 28 games under his belt last term, and Chelsea’s interest we may be forced into a move to ensure he has a future at the Etihad.

Seems an awful lot of assumptions there.

The line:

‘..but would like to see him play a full season as a first choice for Everton in the Premier League before launching an all out bid to sign him.’

We’ve never brought somebody young with potential and then loaned them out for experience have we. Makes all the sense in the world to wait for him to develop further, and pay a higher price, rather than pay a lower price and loan him back for the next 12 months as part of the deal.

What a pie in the sky suggestion!

They go onto say that ‘if’ Everton’s stance changes and a fee is agreed, at that point we will jump in and match it and try and convince him his future lies with us.

They pad the report by saying that City also remain confident of securing long term linked Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg.
