Stretford Old Guard Continue To Talk City

The past two years have seen an unprecedented amount of City teamtalks issued from current and former United players. Despite a squad media ban, still they come…

They really don’t like it up ’em. Sir Alex Ferguson has taken the decision following rubbish Michael Jackson impersonator Nani’s latest outpouring of drivel to stop any of his players talking to hacks in advance of next week’s Manchester derby at The Etihad Stadium.

We’ll miss the likes of Ryan Giggs breaking off from filming his next aerobics video and the 50 year old Paul Scholes telling us how very probably the last ever derby they will feature in will go. Maybe someone with the turning circle of a barge like Rio Ferdinand will still treat us all to some more hoody stylee twitter nonsense.

Yet outside of the swamp is where the real guaranteed hilarity lies in the Great British Press. That’s where you will find the Nevilles, the Schmeichels and assorted hack accolytes struggling to come to terms with the fact that liddle ciddy are Premier League title contenders. Some of their offloading this season has been marvellously desperate.

This week, former Thailand manager Bryan Robson has stepped into the dreary fray. Despite City making meteoric progress in the Premier League over three seasons, he’s tripped over himself to declare The Blues’ record breaking season a failure if they don’t win a trophy. He droaned:

‘There is more pressure on City to win the league than there is on United. With the money they have spent, it will be a failure if they don’t win it. It will mean they have not won a trophy this season and that has to go down as a bad season.’

Better still, Robson clearly believes that Our Malc in Florida will take the rags back to the days when they repeatedly broke transfer records and signed who they wanted at will:

‘The one thing Sir Alex will do, whether he wins the title or not, is to build in the summer. He will do that to try and compete and get back above, or to stay in front of City.’

With Park, Ferdinand, Evra, Scholes, Giggs, Carrick and Berbatov all into their thirties and beyond, Taggart has got a job on.
