Stuart Pearce For England Job?

I’ve gone right off Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes – not that I’m saying I was ever a fan anyway you understand?! He is quoted in the press as saying Stuart Pearce should be considered for the England manager’s job when it becomes available, and with reports linking Sven with a big money move back to Italy after the world cup, that vacancy could be available all too soon.

Pearce has impressed since he replaced Kevin Keegan bringing out the best in the team as well as quickly becoming a fans favourite.

Maybe the former Manchester United player is just trying to wind us all up. Trouble is, he has a point! Hughes said: ‘Stuart has come in and has grabbed the opportunity. Initially when he was given the job maybe he was thought of as a stop-gap until possibly a bigger name came along, but he has made an impact and in the end they couldn’t take the job away from him. He has continued in the same vein and has had a real impact on the football club. When the England job becomes available I would imagine there will be a number of managers put forward and I’m sure if he continues to work well and have success he will be one of those names in that group.’

Although giving us a glimmer of hope he adds: ‘But that could be a couple of years away and perhaps he would prefer to stay for another few years at his club before going into international management.’

Surely the last point is the most salient? He must have club level ambitions to fulfil before taking ‘the big job’. Lets face it, the England managers role has proved a golden chalice for most managers in recent years.
