The compensation fee for Manchester City academy graduate Daniel Sturridge’s move to Chelsea has finally been concluded, with the London club paying considerably more than they had hoped.
Chelsea were ordered by a Premier League tribunal to pay Manchester City £3.5m, rising to a possible £6.5m for their role in the strikers development.
City had been looking for a figure around the £9m mark after Roman Abramovich snapped up the ambitious youngster last summer after his contract expired, the club refusing to adhere to his rediculous wage demands.
Abramovich was willing to pay a maximum of £3m for him but the tribunal agreed on a fee closer to City’s demands, the recent cases of Theo Walcott and Fraizer Campbell working in their favour.
According to reports, the initial £3.5m payment will be increased based on appearances for both club and country.
