Suspension status, outcome of trial, details on wages – Update on Benjamin Mendy

|

Benjamin Mendy’s trial has ended after he was cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, but he will face a retrial on one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.

Mike Keegan and Jack Gaughan of Mail Online say his retrial will be heard at Chester Crown Court on June 26, so his Manchester City contract will expire during that period. Mendy remains suspended by the Sky Blues and hasn’t been paid since he was all but booted out of the club.

Mendy made 75 appearances in all competitions for City since joining from AS Monaco for £52m in 2017, scoring two goals with 14 assists. The French international’s last outing for the Sky Blues came August’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur two years ago, but he’s been suspended ever since.

City no longer show Mendy’s profile on their website and would like to end their association with the left-back as soon as possible. Vital Man City noted in the past that they opted against terminating his contract to avoid getting sued, but they don’t have to pay him £100k-per-week/£5.2m-a-year during his suspension.
