‘Talented player’ – Mark Ogden addresses ‘surprising’ rumour linking Man City with 25 y/o

Joao Cancelo joining Bayern Munich on loan left a void to be filled at Manchester City, but the club failed to sign a replacement before the winter transfer window shut.

Pep Guardiola needs one left-back to replace Cancelo and another to replace Oleksandr Zinchenko who was sold to Arsenal last summer, but the pool of available and stellar options isn’t that big.

City have been linked with a move for Antonee Robinson who’s impressed at Fulham, but Mark Ogden doesn’t believe the Fulham player will go to the Etihad Stadium in the coming months.

He said on ESPN’s YouTube channel: “They do need a left-back and Antonee Robinson’s had a good season at Fulham. He’s a talented player, but I’d be surprised if he goes to City.”

Robinson joined Fulham on a four-year deal in 2020 and has gone on to make 89 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with four assists. Ogden is fair to say Robinson wouldn’t be an “outlandish” signing for City, but he would be an upgrade on Sergio Gomez.

The 25-year-old is a regular at Craven Cottage, making 20 appearances across the board this season, but he would surely jump at the chance to sign for a club like City. Robinson’s deal in West London is up in less than 18 months too, so Fulham might have to consider cashing in early rather than risk losing him for free next year.

It all depends on whether City believe he’s good enough.
