‘They talk to my agent’ – Player reveals Man City are monitoring progress in Spain

Yangel Herrera has shone on loan at Granada and told The Sun that hopes to impress the Manchester City scouts keeping tabs on his progress in Spain. The 23-year-old joined the Nazaríes on a two-season loan in 2019 and might be promoted to City’s first-team upon his return to the Etihad Stadium.

Herrera has proven himself an able ball-winning midfielder who turns over possession efficiently, is strong in the air and can turn defence into attack with his excellent dribbling from deep, so he might be a good long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

The Venezuelan international knows he’s being watched by his parent club and wants to do everything in his power to prove to Pep Guardiola that he belongs in the first-team. He told Sun Sport: “Being with Pep was a masterclass. It helped me see that one day I should have my place there.

“I didn’t feel weird in that dressing room. I was surrounded by great footballers. I work to achieve something like that. I don’t know if Pep’s the best in the world but he needs to be on the podium. Anybody can see what he’s brought to football.

“(Man City) are very aware of each game I play in LaLiga and in the Europa League. I don’t have direct contact but they talk regularly to my agent. I’ve been in Spain for two years playing at a good level and I’m willing to face any challenge. Now is the time to focus as today’s work will reward me in the future.”

Herrera has made 77 appearances in all competitions for Granada, scoring 10 goals with five assists. He’s been a regular at the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium and has clearly been doing the right things to pique City’s attention.

The Sky Blues have Denis Zakaria, Ismael Bennacer, Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot and Douglas Luiz on their radar if Fernandinho leaves, but Herrera wouldn’t be a bad option.
