City’s 2014/15 season technically gets underway with a game at Wembley on Sunday.

The traditional curtain raiser of the charity shield (it’s still the charity shield for me, not the community shield nonsense) will see reigning champions City take on FA cup holders Arsenal.

This weekend comes to soon for Frank Lampard to make his City debut, he along with the other players who have only recently returned from an extended summer break after the world cup this week aren’t going to feature.

Alvaro Negredo (foot injury) is of course sidelined.

Olivier Giroud (lacking fitness) isn’t expected to start for Arsenal but summer signings Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez should play but David Ospina (thigh) could miss out.

There is no love lost between the sides and as much as this game doesn’t really count to for too much ahead of the season it is a chance to lay down a marker isn’t it?

A first charity shield win for City at Wembley will be the aim on Sunday and I reckon they will do this….
