Manchester City Captain Carlos Tevez has given everyone associated with the club a further morale boost by publically committing to the cause of taking the club to the next level…

Disaster at sports desks across Britain and Ireland as the sight of El Apache telling Roberto Mancini that he wanted to stay on the pitch for the last 9 minutes against Bolton Wanderers has come to nothing.

In a full and frank interview with citytv The Blues’ talisman has set the record straight:

‘I think that about 70 to 80 per cent of the things that they say about me in England are untrue…I am happy here, I really am…Anything that goes on between us off the pitch or in the dressing room stays there and the manager and I keep on fighting for the club.’

10 goals to the good in The Premier League this season, Tevez has become City’s ultimate warrior. To date he has made 56 League and Cup starts for The Citizens and scored 39 goals. A stunning return.

And the never say die Argentian promises more to come in an interview that not only reveals the mental stamina he must employ away from his young family on the other side of the world, but serves as a rallying call to his team-mates:

‘I miss my family like anyone in the world, but I am happy here in Manchester…it’s a few months since I have been able to see my daughters and it has been tough. That’s why it is not easy for me living and breathing football all day while your little girls are in Buenos Aires. But it’s something you have to deal with and I know it is a sacrifice that has to be made when you’ve made a commitment like I have done with City…

We have to start believing that we are a big club, get our act together and concentrate, and be strong enough mentally…It is a case of thinking about it properly and getting our mindset right in order to get those half-dozen wins in a row which will give us that belief that we can be champions.’

Tevez has a tremendous bond with City supporters and he reinforced it with these words:

‘I really like the desire the fans have to win something, and I sense it…it gives me a lot of strength.’
