Carlos Tevez continues to drag City’s meandering squad towards the race for Champions League qualification. Here’s the feedback from his 3-0 defeat of Wigan…

Roberto Martinez:

‘…I don’t like to speak about referees because I understand how difficult that job is and to get a decision right in a split second I can understand it. But I cannot understand how you can give something that you don’t see.

‘To give a red card you have to be certain. You look on the replay and there’s no way that’s a red card offence and that’s hard to take. That’s a real football injustice and I feel my players don’t deserve to be feeling the way they are now.’

‘The decision was a key moment in the game and until that moment we were coping really well with everything Man City had.

‘I felt we were growing into the game, we had a couple of opportunities and felt that the last half an hour was going to be crucial.

‘That decision was a key moment. It really cost us and the game went away from us.’

Roberto Mancini:

City’s gaffer stormed down the tunnel to be ready to greet his shambolic side before the first half whistle went:

‘We were not good in the first half and it was impossible for us to be like that again after the break, and Craig did well after coming on as a subsititute.’

On the latest Gary Caldwell sending off:

‘I did not see the red card incident, and I can’t comment on our penalty appeals – the bench is too far back and you cannot see from there!’

On the clean sheet:

‘I’m pleased with the clean sheet, and I am happy for Shay – it’s important to protect your keeper! If we want to finish fourth, we really have to pay attention in defence but we also need a lot of goals.’

On up front issues:

‘I hope Carlos and Emmanuel can continue to work together like they did tonight. It was hard for Emmanuel, he has been away for a month and he needs to improve, but he did well tonight.’

Of the benched and increasingly flagging Gareth Barry:

‘We rested Barry, he has played a lot this season and he needed rest with seven important games coming up. Pablo and Nigel were close to getting suspensions before tonight, so it was important to rest Gareth with that in mind.’

And finally:

‘It was a tough game because Wigan played well. But I’m happy, and I’m very happy for Carlos because he played so well. I hope he can continue like this for the rest of the season.’

Seamus Given:

‘It was a bit of a scrappy first half and the manager let us know at half-time he wasn’t happy – but we upped it a gear.
Carlos was fantastic, he scored three great goals.

‘We’ve got a lot of big games coming up and hopefully we can get across the line.’
