Thaksin Offer Accepted

Despite the amount of negative publicity surronding Thaskin Shinawatra and his attempt to buy Manchester City Football Club in recent weeks, the ex Thai prime minister has today put his money where his mouth is and made a formal offer to buy the club which has been accepted by the majority shareholders.

There is now sure to be unprecedented levels of moral hand wringing by certain football commentators, as well as those City fans opposed to Shinawatra, but at least the club can now move forward, appoint a manager and look forward with optimism to the season ahead.

What is guaranteed to upset those that opposed this takeover is that it appears to leave Manchester City free of debt. Unlike so many other buy outs, the prime example being the rags, Shinawatra has used his own money to buy the club.

The Thai military dictatorship has tried its utmost in recent weeks to scupper the bid; it fears Shinawatra’s popularity in Thailand will be increased on the back of the bid. Fortunately its attempts seem to have failed and City seem set to benefit.

This writer welcomes Thaksin and wishes him every success in his attempts to move the club forward. Politics don’t matter in football and I hope all blues can now move on and support the club.

It’s what we’ve always done.
