Vital Manchester City newbie, mplctid sent us the following article.

I have the challenge of having a best friend who supports the dark side, the vocal minority of Greater Manchester, worse so his dad’s a blue and so was he until some terrible time early in the 1980’s when he lost the faith.

The un-named friend once commented to me, ‘why do I see so many City fans around where I live, sporting their colours?’ It’s who we are I replied.

‘We are proud to be Blues; it’s a sense of identity and more importantly a badge of honour. You need to understand,’I added, ‘we are proud to have been the silent majority in Manchester.’

Throughout all of that lot’s media adulation and silverware accumulation we have been supporting City, sometimes out of nothing but pure bloody mindedness.

Manchester is a unique City, one that admires the underdog, one that cocks it’s nose at the arrogant, so difficult times lie ahead as we look to balance our surely guaranteed successes, while retaining our identity and it’s to this we need to welcome on board those attracted by the future successes by reflecting and celebrating those hollow difficult years when we were always there and experienced years of lows lightened by the sporadic highs of a 5-1 or a 10-1 or a 2-2 comeback in extra time.

It’s who City are and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
