The truth behind City striker’s release clause

|

City superstar Erling Haaland reportedly has a release clause worth €200m and it will be active from 2024 onwards. As per Ben Jacobs/@JacobsBen via @caughtoffside only non-Premier League clubs will be able to activate the Norwegian goal-machine’s clause, putting PSG or Real Madrid as his most likely destination if he was to depart City. It is also stated Haaland’s value decreases each year after 2024, potentially allowing a larger variety of clubs an opportunity to sign Europe’s most profile number nine.

Jacobs goes on to mention that after only being at the club for six short months, City still holds the advantage when it comes to Haaland’s situation. “Even if they (interested clubs) were prepared to meet the value and Haaland really wanted to go, but in that situation City would probably just negotiate anyway, though we’re so far from that scenario that it almost feels laughable to discuss it.” Jacobs also states City will most likely look to extend Haaland’s contract further on down the line, which will render the 2024 release clause void.

City fans shouldn’t be fearing Haaland leaving the club any time soon, as the Norwegian has adapted to his new club better than even the biggest Haaland admirers imagined. The 6ft5 man has scored an incredible 31 goals in just 26 games so far this term, and needs only 8 goals in City’s last 18 Premier League fixtures to break Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 goals in a 38-game season.

The key to keeping the Norwegian happy will be to continue to fight for the biggest honours, keep Pep Guardiola at the club and provide the platform for Haaland to continue to rip up the record books. As things stand so far, all boxes have been ticked.
