The Vital MC MOTM Versus Wigan Athletic

There’s a school of learned football thought out there reckoning that Amsterdamer Nigel de Jong is coming into the form of his life. Few Blues would disagree…

Without wanting to sound sensationalist, I reckon we could be on to one of the game’s future greats here. He certainly has a solid platform of knowledge to build upon.

Tough tackling and self confessed ‘training animal’ de Jong already has Euro 2008 experience in the bank with Holland and Dutch Eredivisie and German Bundesliga combat is now complemented with the pace and intensity of the Premier League.

The hard fought draw at Wigan typified how quickly the 24 year old de Jong is coming on. Many Blues and certainly Pablo Zabaleta will know the dangers of lunging into tackles in this era of referees favouring a non body contact style of football but de Jong is becoming a master of sliding in to dispossess.

The man Andy Hinchcliffe recently called ‘City’s cage fighter’ was our Man of The Match at the David Whelan Stadium…

Meanwhile, Seamus once again comes in second alongside Zaba. Our bargain ‘keeper has to be one of the greatest number one’s in the world.
